Abe Foxman Kicks the Bucket at 86: ADL's Longest-Serving Boss Bites the Dust
The OG anti-antisemitism warrior shuffled off this mortal coil, leaving behind a legacy of access to presidents and pontiffs. So, what's next, fellas?

Abraham Foxman, the guy who ran the Anti-Defamation League since, like, forever, has croaked at the ripe old age of 86. For almost 30 years, he was the ADL's top dog, hobnobbing with presidents, prime ministers, and even Pope John Paul II. Dude had connections, you gotta give him that.
Now, before we start weeping crocodile tears, let's remember what the ADL actually does. They're supposed to fight antisemitism, sure, but they've also been accused of conflating criticism of Israel with actual hate speech. It's a fine line, and sometimes they seemed to miss it entirely. Remember when they labeled Pepe the Frog a hate symbol? Fucking hilarious.
Foxman's legacy is complicated. He had the ear of the powerful, no doubt. He could pick up the phone and get a meeting with pretty much anyone. But did that translate into actually making the world a better place, or was it just a fancy title and a lot of glad-handing?
The ADL's got a lot of power, and power corrupts. They're supposed to be looking out for the little guy, but sometimes it feels like they're more interested in protecting the interests of the elite. It's the same old story: the supposed defenders of the downtrodden end up becoming part of the problem.
So, Foxman's gone. What does it mean? Probably not a whole lot. The ADL will keep doing what the ADL does, which is to say, throwing around its weight and occasionally getting things right. But don't expect them to suddenly become champions of free speech or defenders of the working class. That ain't happening.
The world keeps spinning, the elites keep elite-ing, and the rest of us keep paying the price. RIP, Abe. May your legacy be as nuanced and contradictory as the man himself. And may the memes be ever in your favor.
Time to crack open a cold one and watch the world burn. Or, you know, just browse Twitter and laugh at the latest outrage. Whatever floats your boat.
Don't get me wrong, antisemitism is bad. Real bad. But these institutions... they always end up serving themselves first. It's the nature of the beast. So we gotta keep an eye on 'em, and call 'em out when they start acting sus. That's the only way to keep 'em honest. Maybe.
