Woke Immigration Judge Claims She Got Fired for Being Too Progressive
Another day, another disgruntled bureaucrat cries 'discrimination' after getting the boot.

SAN FRANCISCO – Oh, brother. Here we go again. Some California immigration judge, Kyra Lilien, is suing the DOJ, claiming she got canned because she's a registered Democrat and a woman over 40. Yeah, because that's the reason. Probably had nothing to do with her job performance, right? The 14-page lawsuit names the DOJ and Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche. Sounds like she's angling for a sweet settlement.
Lilien, who was slumming it at the San Francisco and Concord Immigration Courts, claims her civil and First Amendment rights were violated. Boo hoo. She alleges she wasn't retained after her probationary period because of the usual suspects: age, being a Spanish speaker (gasp!), and associating with the Hispanic community. Okay, so she's basically checking all the victimhood boxes. Points for effort, I guess.
Her lawyer, some guy named Kevin Owen, says she "didn't fit their mold." What mold is that, exactly? The one where judges are supposed to, you know, interpret the law instead of pushing their own woke agenda? Imagine that!
The lawsuit also drags in like 30 other immigration judges who got the axe. Apparently, a lot of them were women. Cue the outrage machine. It's almost like the government is allowed to fire underperforming employees, regardless of their gender or political affiliation. Crazy, I know.
According to TRAC Immigration, Lilien denied 34% of asylum claims. So, not exactly a hard-liner. Makes you wonder if maybe, just maybe, she was letting a few too many people skate by. But hey, who needs evidence when you can just scream 'discrimination'?
And of course, there's the obligatory mention of some "controversial memoranda" from Sirce Owen, the acting EOIR director at the time. Apparently, she wasn't a fan of immigrant advocacy groups. Shocker. Maybe she thought they were, I don't know, advocating for illegal immigration? Just a thought.
Look, I'm not saying the DOJ is perfect. Far from it. But this whole thing stinks of a disgruntled employee trying to cash in on the current climate of political correctness. I bet the deep state is shaking in its boots! If this were a movie, she'd be played by Meryl Streep. Or maybe Rosie O'Donnell. I guess it depends on how sympathetic they want us to feel.
The moral of the story? Don't expect the government to fund your virtue signaling. The gravy train might be running a little late. Also, maybe, just maybe, focus on doing your job instead of complaining about your "oppression." It's a bold strategy, Cotton, let's see if it pays off for her.
