RFK Jr. to Big Pharma: Hold My Beer, We're Deprescribing!
Trump's HHS cracks down on the pill-pushing psych industry, because SSRIs aren't the answer to everything (except maybe keeping sheep docile).

Okay, folks, buckle up, because it looks like someone finally decided to take on Big Pharma's antidepressant racket. RFK Jr., the health secretary nobody saw coming, is apparently going full-throttle on “deprescribing.” Yeah, you heard that right. They're actually admitting maybe shoving happy pills down everyone's throats isn't the optimal solution to all of life's problems. Shocking, I know.
So, Kennedy, fresh off his Make America Healthy Again tour (sponsored, probably, by beef jerky and freedom), decided to drop a truth bomb on the mental health industry. Apparently, the plan is to treat antidepressants as, get this, one option among many, instead of the default for anyone who feels a little down. What a concept!
Of course, the usual suspects are clutching their pearls. The American Psychiatric Association (APA), bless their hearts, is all like, “Oh no, not overprescribing! It's just that people can't access care!” Right, because if you can't get to the doctor, you definitely need more drugs. Makes total sense. It's the access, stupid. They claim that “That characterization oversimplifies a complex crisis and ignores the larger reality: too many patients cannot access timely, affordable and appropriate psychiatric care.” Sure, Jan.
But let's be real: Big Pharma is probably sweating bullets right now. All those sweet, sweet SSRI profits potentially going down the drain? Can't have that! Gotta keep the masses medicated and compliant. Who knows what might happen if people actually started thinking for themselves?
And let's not forget RFK Jr.'s totally-not-at-all-controversial claim that antidepressants are linked to school shootings. Okay, maybe that's a bit out there. But hey, at least he's asking questions, unlike the rest of the establishment who just wants to keep the status quo rolling. It's refreshing to see someone pushing back, even if it's just to trigger the libs.
So, what's the actual plan? Apparently, HHS wants doctors to actually consider things like therapy, diet, and exercise before reaching for the prescription pad. Radical, I know. They're even going to pay doctors to help people get OFF the meds. Imagine that! Treating the cause, not just masking the symptoms.
A survey from 2025 showed nearly 17% of Americans are on antidepressants. Seems high to me. The survey also found that a “significant proportion of adults in every US state oppose efforts to restrict access to antidepressant prescribing”.
