Media Seething: New Poll Shows MAGA Actually Backs NATO (But Allies Still Need to Pay Their Rent)
The corporate media's favorite narrative just collapsed after a new survey shows 69% of MAGA supporters are ready to defend NATO allies if they get attacked.

The corporate media is absolutely seething today after a new poll completely shattered their favorite narrative. For years, talking heads have warned that the MAGA crowd wanted to completely burn down our international alliances. But according to the latest data, it turns out MAGA supporters actually back NATO—they just want our European allies to stop being freeloaders and finally pay their rent.
The Reagan Institute Summer Survey dropped some massive red pills on the establishment, showing that 73% of Americans think staying in NATO is important for U.S. security and prosperity. Even more embarrassing for the narrative-spinners, 64% of Republicans and 61% of MAGA Republicans agree. It turns out that wanting allies to pay their fair share isn't the same thing as wanting to abandon them. Who would have thought?
But the real kicker comes from the poll's question on Article 5 collective defense. After being told that NATO members are obligated to defend one another if attacked, a whopping 69% of MAGA Republicans said they would support using U.S. military force to defend an ally. That sits right alongside 71% of mainstream Republicans and 76% of Democrats. MAGA isn't isolationist; they just hate seeing America get taken for a ride by deadbeat allies who expect us to do all the heavy lifting.
This all went down right as President Trump met with the new NATO Secretary-General, Mark Rutte, at the White House on Wednesday. Trump did what he does best: he put the squeeze on the Europeans, criticizing several allies for their pathetic lack of support during the recent U.S. operation against Iran. If you want American protection, you can't ghost us when the block gets hot.
Instead of crying about it, Rutte actually bent the knee and praised Trump's alpha leadership, admitting that Trump is the sole reason NATO members are finally opening up their wallets and boosting defense spending. Rutte was incredibly effusive in his praise, saying, "I really want to make clear how important it is what you are doing on Iran. This is first of all about the nuclear capability Iran was very near to getting its hands on."
The poll itself was conducted between May 26 and June 3, 2026, surveying 1,555 people with a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points. They used a mixed-mode setup (phones, internet, text) and weighted the results using 2023 Census Bureau benchmarks to keep things accurate.
They also did an oversample of 331 young MAGA bros under 30 (with a 5% margin of error). Even the zoomer patriots are showing that they believe in a strong America that stands by its partners, provided those partners aren't freeloading off the American taxpayer.
The Reagan Institute, which loves to push that classic boomer "peace through strength" energy, essentially proved what we've known all along: Trump's tough negotiations aren't about destroying alliances—they're about making them actually work.
