You literally cannot make this up. Darializa Avila Chevalier, a 32-year-old socialist backed by New York City’s far-left Mayor Zohran Mamdani, just won the Democratic primary for New York’s 13th Congressional District. Her primary qualification? Founding a radical student group at Columbia University that openly posted about wanting to completely destroy Western civilization. Welcome to the modern Democratic Party, folks.

Avila Chevalier, a career "community organizer" who was born in Florida to Dominican immigrants and recently converted to Islam, has spent years LARPing as a revolutionary. Writing a bio for the anti-Israel website The Electronic Intifada, she proudly bragged about helping to launch "Columbia University Apartheid Divest" (CUAD). That’s the same group that took to Instagram in 2024 to post: "We are Westerners fighting for the total eradication of Western civilization." Naturally, they deleted the post after getting called out, but the internet always keeps receipts.

In case you thought the "eradicate Western civilization" part was a typo, the rest of CUAD's deleted post made their radical worldview crystal clear: "We stand in full solidarity with every movement for liberation in the Global South. Our Intifada is an internationalist one — we are fighting for nothing less than the liberation of all people." Because nothing says "liberation" like destroying the very civilization that allows you to post on Instagram all day.

Instead of growing up and leaving the college activism behind after graduating in 2016, the 32-year-old nominee went right back to campus in May 2024. She was spotted wearing a keffiyeh and a CUAD t-shirt, standing side-by-side with the campus occupiers at the infamous Columbia anti-Israel encampment. She even did an interview with the Associated Press right there at the camp before the police finally rolled in and cleaned up the campus.

Even Columbia University realized the group was a toxic liability, issuing a statement roundly denouncing CUAD and making it clear they have absolutely no official connection to the school. But while the Ivy League is trying to wash its hands of these radicals, NYC Democratic voters are apparently ready to send them to Washington.

This insane shift has some of the last remaining moderate Democrats panicking. Senator John Fetterman, D-Pa., took to X to call out the absolute clown show: "Anti-Israel. Anti-America. Anti-Western Civilization. Why am I the only Democrat in the U.S. Senate that refuses to excuse this or defend any of those self-identified communists?" Good question, John. Maybe because your party has been completely hijacked.

Indeed, socialists swept the NYC primaries, fueled by a massive Get Out the Vote rally on June 18, 2026, at King's Theater, where far-left icons Bernie Sanders and Mayor Mamdani hyped up the crowd. Voters eagerly approved platforms calling for Medicare-for-all and—hilariously—abolishing ICE, proving that the activist-to-politician pipeline is fully operational.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and other Republicans have sounded the alarm, warning that the Democratic Party is undergoing a full-blown "Marxist" shift. Meanwhile, left-wing internet grifters like Hasan Piker are pop-fizzing with excitement, celebrating that America is "closer than ever" to full-on socialism. As Avila Chevalier marches toward the general election, the joke is officially on the voters who think this ends well.
