Government Shutdown: GOP Civil War Edition – ICE Gets the Shaft (Again)
Eight weeks in, and the shutdown's still going strong because the GOP can't agree if funding ICE is 'based' enough.

Alright, folks, grab your popcorn. The government shutdown is entering its eighth week. That's right, eight whole weeks of Congress twiddling their thumbs while the swamp creatures feast. And why? Because the GOP is having a full-blown civil war over… you guessed it, funding ICE.
So, the GOP leadership – bless their hearts – came up with a “compromise.” Fund the TSA, Coast Guard, FEMA (you know, the important stuff), but stiff ICE and CBP. The rationale? We'll sneak the border patrol funding in through a reconciliation bill later. Genius! Except, the actual conservatives in the House are saying, “Hold up, this smells like capitulation.” They're not wrong. It's like offering the left a participation trophy and expecting them to be satisfied.
Apparently, these so-called “hardliners” are upset that the Democrats threw a tantrum over a couple of… incidents… involving ICE and CBP officers. You know, those pesky officers who are just trying to enforce the laws of the land. Now, the Democrats want to defund the very agencies tasked with keeping our borders secure. And the GOP leadership is just rolling over? Weak.
And don't even get me started on DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin threatening to pull customs agents from sanctuary city airports. Now THAT'S based. It's about time someone started playing hardball with these virtue-signaling cities that openly defy federal law. “Sanctuary cities is not lawful.” You tell 'em, Markwayne.
Meanwhile, in Florida, based Governor DeSantis is out here designating terrorist groups and punishing anyone who dares to promote them. And, of course, specifically banning Sharia Law because, let's be honest, nobody wants that nonsense here. The left is screaming about free speech, but freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom to advocate for terrorism. Simple as.
And then there's Arizona Rep. Yassamin Ansari, who's apparently trying to impeach Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Why? Because she thinks only Congress can declare war. Honey, Congress can barely agree on what day it is, let alone conduct a successful military campaign. Someone needs to take a civics lesson.
Oh, and let's not forget that Trump is still out there threatening to bomb Iran if they don't open the Strait of Hormuz. “The entire country can be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night.” Classic Trump. Love him or hate him, you gotta admit, the man knows how to make a statement.
