Venezuela's Prisons: Still a Dumpster Fire, Even After Regime Change (Kinda)
Inmates throw a fit over 'mistreatment' – shocker! – because even ousting Maduro doesn't magically fix socialism's messes.

BARINAS, Venezuela – So, remember that glorious regime change we kinda-sorta pulled off in Venezuela? Turns out, even a little yankee know-how can't immediately fix decades of Chavista rot. Case in point: Injuba prison in Barinas. The inmates are throwing a tantrum, setting mattresses on fire, and generally acting like the spoiled brats of socialist oppression they are. Why? Because apparently, they're being 'mistreated.' Welcome to reality, snowflakes.
The Venezuelan Prison Observatory (OVP), bless their little NGO hearts, is hyperventilating about 'violent searches' and 'solitary confinement.' Newsflash: it's prison! Not exactly Club Med. These guys aren't exactly being held for jaywalking. They're probably murderers, drug lords, and assorted other delightful members of Venezuelan society. Suddenly, a little 'mistreatment' doesn't sound so bad, does it?
OVP conveniently released footage of inmates whining and showing off boo-boos. One genius shouts 'they're shooting at us!' as if that's some kind of unprecedented outrage. Sorry, pal, but when you're rioting on the roof of a prison, don't be surprised if the guards respond with a little lead therapy. Just sayin'. Then there's some lady in sunglasses demanding the prison director and the minister of prisons resign. Honey, maybe try a strongly worded letter first? Oh wait, you're IN PRISON.
The UN's Human Rights office, never one to miss a chance to virtue signal, is 'receiving reports' of ongoing torture. Color me shocked. Turns out, replacing Maduro with a slightly less insane leader doesn't magically erase all the corruption and brutality. Who knew? Also, the US "seized" Maduro? That's news to me. It's more like he was politely escorted to a less important room while the adults talked. Maybe.
Meanwhile, Foro Penal is all sad about the 400+ political prisoners still behind bars. Okay, fair enough. But let's not pretend these guys are all innocent dissidents. Some of them probably deserve to be there. And the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners is crying about 'punishment, hunger, solitary confinement, torture and inhumane conditions.' Again, welcome to prison! If you don't like it, maybe don't commit crimes.
Bottom line: Venezuela is still a mess. Maduro's gone (for now), but the rot runs deep. Fixing it will take more than just a regime change. It'll take a complete overhaul of the country's institutions, a massive dose of free-market capitalism, and a whole lot of tough love. And maybe, just maybe, a little less whining from the pampered prisoners.
