Thailand Pulls the Plug on Visa Tourists: Turns Out 'Tourism' Was Code for 'Crime'
The woke West's 'open borders' experiment hits a snag as Thailand finally notices all the 'tourists' committing crimes.

Well, well, well. Looks like someone in Thailand finally woke up and smelled the… crime. Remember when they threw open the doors with that 60-day visa free-for-all back in 2024? Yeah, turns out “boosting tourism” wasn’t exactly the whole story. The sequel is that the Thai government is slamming the brakes on the tourist visa gravy train faster than you can say “sex trafficking.”
Turns out all those “digital nomads” and “cultural explorers” were also dabbling in a bit of drug running, sex trafficking, and running businesses without the proper permits. Who could have seen that coming? (Everyone, that's who.)
Now, they’re cutting visa-free stays down to 30 days, or even a measly 15 for some. The tourism minister is talking about “deciding on a country-by-country basis,” which probably means they’re going to start giving the side-eye to anyone with a passport from a country that's currently trending on Twitter for being a dumpster fire of wokeness.
But don’t worry, you can still renew your visa! Just head down to the immigration office and explain why you’re really staying longer. I'm sure "I'm deeply immersed in the local culture and just really enjoy the authentic taste of Thai prison food" will do the trick.
The Foreign Minister insists they're not targeting any specific country, but it's all part of cracking down on “transnational crime.” Riiiiight. And I'm sure it has nothing to do with certain countries exporting more problems than tourists lately.
The best part? A government spokesperson admitted that the previous scheme was being “exploited.” No kidding! It’s like leaving a bowl of candy out for trick-or-treaters and then acting surprised when all the candy is gone.
So, what’s the takeaway here? Maybe, just maybe, open borders aren't always the smartest idea. Maybe, just maybe, there’s a reason countries have borders and immigration laws in the first place. And maybe, just maybe, Thailand is finally learning that lesson the hard way. Cue the Benny Hill theme.
This isn't to say all foreigners are criminals. Some, I assume, are good people. But the data don't lie. And the Thai government is obviously feeling the heat to do something about it.
Expect the usual suspects to start crying about “xenophobia” and “racism.” But let’s be real, this isn’t about hating foreigners. It’s about protecting Thai citizens and preserving Thai culture. And sometimes, that means saying “enough is enough.”
