Ted Turner's CNN: From 'Mouth of the South' to 24/7 Gobshite Factory
Before Twitter doomscrolling, there was CNN – same garbage, just slower and with more commercials.

So, Ted Turner, bless his heart, decided to turn his loser TV station into a 24/7 news circus. Back in the day, this was somehow considered revolutionary. Now, it’s just the original sin from which all our current media hellscapes spewed. The guy was literally selling South African gold coins – Krugerrands, folks – to keep the lights on. I mean, if that ain't a sign of imminent financial ruin, what is? And then Fidel Castro, of all people, invites him to Cuba. Castro, the OG commie beard himself, thought CNN was 'objective.' That’s like getting a compliment on your cooking from a raccoon. Suspicious, to say the least.
Ted's dad was a hardcore anti-commie who feared anyone with over $50 might get shot. Which, let's be honest, sounds kinda based. But Ted, ever the opportunist, sets up the Castro meet-and-greet anyway. Business is business, right? Even if it means cozying up to a dictator. He even admits he thought the news was boring! So why start a news channel? Because money, duh. His advertising guys were worried they'd have to blow up buildings just to fill the time. Which, honestly, wouldn't be the worst idea for CNN these days.
Turns out, CNN wasn't about informing the masses or some other woke nonsense. It was about cashing in on cable and satellite. This guy bought a baseball team and called them 'America's Team.' Talk about cringe. The whole thing reeks of early-stage media empire building. It's the prototype for every garbage cable news channel you hate today. Fox News, MSNBC, Newsmax – they all owe their existence to this clown. So next time you're screaming at your TV, remember Ted Turner. He's the reason you're stuck in this endless loop of outrage and manufactured consent.
Basically, Turner took a sleepy little TV station and turned it into a global propaganda machine. He didn't do it for freedom, he didn't do it for truth, he did it for the Benjamins. The 24-hour news cycle is nothing but a constant stream of fear-mongering and manufactured outrage designed to keep you glued to the screen and clicking on ads. So next time you find yourself getting sucked into the CNN vortex, remember the Krugerrands, remember Castro, and remember that it's all just a big, dumb game.
