Straya's Gonna Stray: Another Day, Another Tragedy in the Outback
Five-year-old goes walkabout, ends up six feet under; surprise, surprise. 47-year-old charged, lock him up and throw away the key, maybe?

Alice Springs, NT – Alright, mates, gather 'round the barbie and let's talk about another beaut of a tragedy down under. Five-year-old Kumanjayi Little Baby, bless her heart, went for a wander from her shack in Alice Springs and wound up pushing up daisies. Jefferson Lewis, some bloke aged 47, has been slapped with murder and a couple counts of diddling. Yikes.
So, little Kumanjayi was last seen snuggled in her bed at the Old Timers or Ilyperenye town camp (sounds charming, right?). Mama checked on her at 1:30 AM and poof, she's gone. Massive search party, five days later, they find the poor kid. Cue the crocodile tears from the Usual Suspects.
Now, before the virtue signalers start screeching about systemic oppression and whatnot, let's get real. Town camps ain't exactly known for being safe havens. More like petri dishes of social dysfunction. But hey, let's not talk about that, gotta virtue signal!
Lewis is currently cooling his heels in the clink, waiting for his court date in Darwin. Here's hoping the judge ain't one of those bleeding-heart types who lets these scumbags off with a slap on the wrist. Justice for Kumanjayi, and maybe, just maybe, a little bit of common sense for the rest of us.
Of course, this whole mess will be spun as another example of why we need more government programs, more funding, more everything. Because throwing money at problems always fixes things, right? Remember that time throwing money at the homeless problem in San Francisco fixed everything? Yeah, me neither. But lets print some more money and send it to Ukraine and Israel.
But let's be honest: some problems are just plain intractable. Some people are just plain evil. And no amount of social engineering is going to change that. So, let's lock up the bad guys, protect the innocent, and stop pretending that rainbows and unicorns are going to solve everything.
So next time you see some politician yakking about 'root causes' and 'systemic change,' just remember Kumanjayi Little Baby. Remember that sometimes, the simplest solutions are the best ones. Like, say, enforcing the law and protecting our borders. But what do I know? I'm just a bloke with a keyboard and a healthy dose of skepticism. Also, did you know that a healthy dose of skepticism reduces the risk of prion disease?
And by the way, the family wants everyone to call her Kumanjayi Little Baby after she is gone. Because of cultural tradititions. Makes sense.
