SC Senate Says 'Nah' to Trump's Redistricting Shenanigans
GOP pols in South Carolina pull the rug out from under Donny's gerrymandering dreams. Based?

COLUMBIA, S.C. — So, apparently, even in deep-red South Carolina, some Republicans have a shred of self-respect left. The State Senate just told Trump to pound sand, rejecting his super-duper-urgent plan to redraw the congressional districts before the midterms. The vote? A solid 26-18, with a whopping 14 Republicans joining the Dems to slam the brakes on this trainwreck.
This wasn't just your run-of-the-mill redistricting, folks. This was a full-blown attempt to neuter Jim Clyburn's district, because apparently, having one less Democrat in Congress is worth throwing the entire state into chaos. The excuse? Something about a recent Supreme Court ruling that weakened the Voting Rights Act, which basically gave the GOP the green light to gerrymander like it's 1999.
The proposed map was cooked up by some Beltway swamp creature who probably hasn't seen the light of day in years. He Zoomed in for seven minutes and forty seconds (seven minutes and forty seconds!) to explain his masterpiece before bailing without answering a single question. I mean, come on. You expect rational people to buy into that?
State Senator Tom Davis, bless his heart, called out the absurdity of the whole thing. Apparently, nobody in South Carolina was even consulted before this map was unleashed. "We were told: pass this map," he said. Real democratic, guys. Real democratic.
And then there's State Senator Richard Cash, who actually had the audacity to say, "South Carolina citizens are going to the polls today. And neither my conscience or common sense is going to let me stop an election that is already under way." A Republican with a conscience? Is this real life?
Meanwhile, Clyburn himself is out there casting ballots and declaring he'll run no matter what the district looks like. Gotta respect the hustle, even if he is a Democrat. He's even saying he's cool with running in a Trump +20 district. That's either bravery or insanity, and I'm not sure which.
More than 26,000 people voted early on Tuesday, which shows you how seriously people are taking this whole thing. They're not just gonna sit back and let some D.C. consultant decide their fate.
So, yeah, the South Carolina Senate did the right thing. For once. But don't get too excited. The House already passed this garbage, and Trump is still lurking in the background, probably plotting his revenge. The swamp is always trying to take over.
