Mega-Cringe: Socialist Primary Winner Who Blamed 9/11 on 'Capitalism' Just Won in Queens
Aber Kawas thinks America had it coming because of 'white supremacy,' and New York Democrats are completely fine with it.

Just when you thought New York politics couldn’t get any more unhinged, the progressive clown show has reached peak performance. Aber Kawas, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist and card-carrying member of the "mini Mamdani" brigade, just cruised to victory in the Democratic primary for Queens' State Senate District 12. Yes, you read that correctly: New York Democrats have officially nominated a candidate whose foreign policy analysis sounds like a freshman sociology major who just discovered Reddit.
The highlight of Kawas's intellectual portfolio is a lovely resurfaced clip from a 2017 podcast titled "Islamophobia beyond 9/11 with Aber Kawas." In this masterclass of academic delusion, Kawas decided to drop some massive galaxy-brain takes on why the September 11 terrorist attacks actually happened. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t because of radical Islamic terrorists who hijacked airplanes. No, according to Kawas, the real culprit behind the collapse of the Twin Towers was none other than... capitalism.
"The system of capitalism and racism and white supremacy… and Islamophobia, have all been used to colonize lands, to take resources from other people and so this is a long trajectory and we're just seeing the manifestations of that continuation with 9/11," Kawas explained on the podcast. You have to admire the absolute confidence it takes to look at a devastating terrorist attack on your own city and conclude, "Yep, this is definitely the fault of free-market capitalism and white supremacy."
But wait, there's more. Kawas didn’t just blame the economic system for the attacks; she also made sure to downplay the tragedy itself. "The idea we have to apologize for a terror attack that a couple of people did and then there is no apology or reparations for genocides and for slavery… is something I find reprehensible," she complained. Because apparently, in the progressive Olympics of victimhood, 3,000 dead Americans don't even warrant a basic apology unless we first settle the score for global history.
When these totally normal, totally mainstream comments inevitably resurfaced, Kawas did what every progressive politician does when caught on tape: she cried "cherry-picking" and blamed the right-wing boogeyman. In a desperate attempt to spin the narrative, Kawas claimed she was merely defending Muslim Americans from being scapegoated. Because nothing says "defending my community" quite like suggesting a horrific mass casualty event was just a predictable "manifestation" of American wickedness.
"Our resounding victory this week shows that the people of Queens simply don’t buy into this kind of desperate, Islamophobic smear," Kawas boasted after the votes were counted. It’s a classic move: when your own words make you look terrible, just call the people pointing it out bigots and hope nobody actually listens to the audio. And since this is a deeply blue Queens district, the local electorate was more than happy to nod along.
It gets even better when you look at her family background, which reads like a textbook case of illegal immigration Bingo. Her father, Abdelkareem Kawas, rolled into the United States on a tourist visa in 1989 and simply decided that expiration dates were merely suggestions. He eventually got caught up in a real estate fraud scheme, did a little stint in federal prison, and was promptly deported back to Jordan. Naturally, Kawas has turned this criminal escapade into a key part of her campaign narrative.
Aside from her family’s legal troubles, Kawas has reportedly been affiliated with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization that has earned terrorist designations in multiple jurisdictions. When she isn't busy defending her radical ties, she’s out on the streets demanding rent freezes with other far-left darlings like Claire Valdez, proving that her understanding of economics is just as sophisticated as her understanding of geopolitical conflict.
During her victory speech, Kawas made sure to prioritize international virtue signaling over actual Queens municipal issues, proclaiming that "another world is possible" and demanding a "free Gaza." It’s nice to know that while Queens residents are dealing with skyrocketing rent and crime, their newly elected state representative is hyper-focused on solving decades-old Middle Eastern conflicts from her local campaign office.
The rise of these "mini Mamdanis" proves that the modern Democratic Party is being hollowed out by anti-establishment radicals who genuinely seem to dislike the country they want to govern. As Fox News host Laura Ingraham pointed out, these candidates represent a "radical takedown of America" that targets even establishment Democrats like Hakeem Jeffries. If Kawas is the future of the New York left, we are in for an absolute comedy goldmine of terrible policy and cringe-inducing rhetoric.
Ultimately, this is what happens when identity politics completely replaces common sense. The voters of Queens got exactly what they asked for: a socialist activist who blames America first and asks questions never. As the general election approaches, it'll be fascinating to see how the mainstream media tries to normalize someone who literally blamed the free market for 9/11.
