LIRR Union Gonna LIRR Union: Commute Chaos Averted (For Now)
Greedy union thugs hold NYC hostage AGAIN, but maybe, just maybe, they'll remember who pays the bills this time.

NEW YORK – Another day, another near-meltdown of the NYC transportation system thanks to the glorious LIRR unions. These guys, bless their hearts, decided to hold hundreds of thousands of commuters hostage over the weekend with a strike because... well, because they could. Seems like they're whining about 'pay and work rules' – the usual suspects in the public sector grift.
Okay, okay, so the 'strike' was averted, for now. Turns out, the National Mediation Board – basically the adult supervision for these tantrums – stepped in and told everyone to get back to the bargaining table. The feds had to babysit the MTA and LIRR unions, because apparently, grown adults can't negotiate without Uncle Sam holding their hands. What a joke.
The MTA, predictably, whined about 'severe congestion and delays' and suggested everyone work from home. Yeah, because every construction worker, nurse, and bodega owner can just telecommute, right? These clowns live in a bubble so thick you could bounce a cruise missile off it.
IAM Union is already patting itself on the back, claiming the 'solidarity and strength' of its members forced management to cave. Right. More like the threat of pitchforks and torches from angry commuters finally got their attention. These parasites need to remember who funds their gold-plated pensions: the hardworking schlubs who pack onto those trains every day.
Kathy Hochul, ever the useless politician, bleated about the need for an agreement. Thanks, Kathy, very helpful. Maybe she could try doing something useful for once, like cutting off the flow of taxpayer money to these perpetually aggrieved unions.
MTA Chair Janno Lieber actually managed to utter something resembling common sense, warning that the agency can't 'responsibly make a deal that implodes MTA’s budget.' Good luck with that, pal. You're dealing with people who think money grows on trees – specifically, the trees in Central Park made of taxpayer dollars.
The real kicker? This is the first LIRR strike in over 30 years... after a TWO-DAY STOPPAGE IN 1994! These guys are like clockwork. Every few decades, they hold the city hostage for a few days, get a slightly bigger slice of the pie, and then go back to their taxpayer-funded slumber.
So, congrats, LIRR commuters! You've dodged a bullet... for now. But rest assured, the unions will be back. They always are. And next time, maybe we should just let them strike and see how long they last without the money spigot flowing. Just a thought.
I'm not saying we should defund public transportation, I'm just saying that the Unions act like they own it, and the MTA lets them. If we are going to make this work for our commmunities, there is going to have to be compromise from both sides.
Remember, the next time you're crammed into a sweaty LIRR car at 7 AM, just think about the glorious union benefits those workers are enjoying, courtesy of your hard-earned tax dollars. It'll make the commute SO much more enjoyable. Or not.
This whole thing is a reminder that the government doesn't care about the people, so we need to care for each other, and make sure those in power can't abuse the common man. This is not a sustainable system, and it is only a matter of time until we fall. Remember to keep your head up, and never give up.
