Kneecap Drops 'Fenian' Album: More Woke Nonsense From Ireland's Favorite Rappers?
Belfast hipsters double down on cultural appropriation and victim signaling, but will anyone actually listen?

Alright, so Kneecap, the Irish rap group for people who think Guinness is spicy, dropped a new album called 'Fenian.' Because nothing screams 'authentic cultural expression' like whining about colonialism while cashing royalty checks. These guys, Móglaí Bap, DJ Provai, and Mo Chara (sounds like a law firm, tbh), are back at it again, rapping in Gaelic (mostly) about how oppressed they are. It's like the Irish version of performative wokeness.
'Fenian,' for those of you who skipped history class to smoke weed behind the bleachers, is a loaded term. It's like calling someone a 'rebel' but with extra historical baggage. Originally, it meant some ancient Irish warrior dudes, then it was picked up by rebels fighting the British. Now, it's basically a slur for Irish people in Northern Ireland who aren't fans of the Queen. So, Kneecap's using it as a badge of honor, because nothing says 'fighting the power' like adopting a term your grandma probably hates.
The album itself? Predictable. They've got a track called 'Palestine' featuring some Palestinian rapper, because nothing unites oppressed peoples like… uh… shared grievance? Then there's 'Irish Goodbye,' which is apparently about one of the members' moms dying by suicide. Real uplifting stuff. And 'Carnival' documents Mo Chara's legal troubles for waving a Hezbollah flag – accidentally, of course. Because when you're a woke artist, all mistakes are just performance art.
Móglaí Bap claims they rap in Irish because young people in Belfast actually speak it. Sure, Jan. Maybe like five of them. The rest are probably just trying to impress tourists. But hey, gotta keep the cultural appropriation narrative going somehow. It's not like they're actually trying to preserve a dying language. They're just using it to sell records to virtue-signaling college students.
And let's not forget their anti-Israel stance. Mo Chara says the Palestinian cause is close to Irish hearts because of '800 years of colonialism.' Right, because centuries-old beef is totally relevant to modern geopolitics. Maybe they should focus on fixing potholes in Belfast instead of LARPing as anti-imperialist freedom fighters.
Of course, they've been banned from a few countries. Canada and Hungary, specifically. Probably for being annoying. But hey, bans are basically free advertising these days. Nothing drives up album sales like a good ol' censorship scandal.
Mo Chara's legal troubles? Hilarious. He claims he didn't know what the Hezbollah flag meant. Yeah, and I accidentally voted for Biden. These guys are the reason nobody takes 'activist' artists seriously. They're just using politics as a marketing gimmick.
'Fenian' is basically a collection of woke talking points set to a mediocre hip-hop beat. It's designed to appeal to people who want to feel good about themselves without actually doing anything. So, if you're into virtue signaling and cultural appropriation, go ahead and give it a listen. But don't expect to be enlightened. Or entertained.
It is what you would expect from an anti-establishment Irish group, but fails to deliver anything new or interesting.
