Iran Cranks Up the Based-O-Meter: Executes Three Protesters
Regime says 'hold my tea' and reminds dissidents who's boss, but the usual suspects in DC are clutching their pearls.

So, Iran executed three dudes allegedly involved in those January protests. Turns out, messing with the mullahs has consequences. Who knew? Honestly, color me shocked that a theocratic dictatorship isn't exactly keen on 'peaceful dialogue' with its detractors. But hey, at least they're consistent.
The regime's Mizan news agency dropped the news, casually mentioning that Mehdi Rassouli, Mohammad Reza Miri, and Ebrahim Dolatabadi were deemed responsible for stirring up trouble in Mashhad. Apparently, wanting something other than sharia law and economic ruin is a capital offense now. Though, let's be real, it probably always was.
The protests themselves? A delightful mix of economic anxieties and good old-fashioned anti-regime sentiment. Started in December, then ballooned into a full-blown shindig in January. The government's response? A solid 10/10 on the authoritarian scale. We're talking thousands allegedly disappeared, imprisoned, or worse. But hey, at least they're not using gender-affirming pronouns, right? Priorities, people!
According to the state-run media, Rassouli and Miri were directly responsible for ending the career of one of the security forces. Dolatabadi? An 'instigator.' Apparently, knowing how to rally the plebs gets you a one-way ticket to the gallows.
Of course, every Western NGO is losing its mind. 'Unfair trials!' they cry. 'Political prisoners!' they wail. Norway-based Iran Human Rights is claiming these guys were railroaded through revolutionary courts. And Amnesty International is having a meltdown, talking about torture and forced confessions. Look, I'm not saying these claims are wrong, but maybe, just maybe, expecting due process from a totalitarian state is a tad naive?
Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, director of Iran Human Rights, is hyperventilating about the EU needing to 'respond decisively.' Translation: More strongly worded letters and strongly worded tweets. Maybe some sanctions that will conveniently miss all the guys actually profiting from the regime. Real effective, guys!
Meanwhile, back in the real world, Iran's busy being the world's second-biggest executioner after China. Last year, they apparently offed at least 1,639 people. That's a lot of kebab skewers... I mean, 'justice.'
Frankly, this entire situation is peak clown world. We're supposed to be shocked that a country run by religious zealots is acting like religious zealots? I'm more shocked that our own government is somehow surprised by this. I mean, did they think Iran was suddenly going to embrace Critical Race Theory and become a bastion of progressive values? Get real.
