Chicago Mayor Goes Full Woke, Calls Restaurants 'Slavery' 2.0
Mayor Brandon Johnson drops the reparations card while fighting to kill the tipped wage, proving once again that woke politics is just bad for business.

So, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, fresh off surviving a veto override, decided to drop a bombshell: apparently, your local burger joint is basically a plantation. Yeah, he actually said the restaurant industry is 'tied to slavery' while defending his plan to phase out the subminimum wage for tipped workers. Can't make this stuff up, folks.
This guy's been hitting the woke juice hard. He claims that if you dare oppose his plan to jack up wages for servers, you're basically taking food off the plates of 'Black and Brown people.' Because, you know, all servers are minorities, and any economic disagreement is automatically racist. Real nuanced, Brandon.
His genius plan? Force restaurants to pay everyone the full minimum wage by 2028. Restaurant owners, the small business owners he's supposed to be supporting, are screaming that this will force them to raise prices, cut jobs, or even close down. But who cares about reality when you can virtue signal?
He even threw in the 'reparations' angle, because why not? He's 'boldly declaring' that Chicago needs reparations, and that's why he's wasting half a million taxpayer dollars on his Reparations Task Force. A task force, mind you, that he's been accused of running in secret. Transparency? Never heard of her.
And the kicker? His office doubled down, claiming tipping became popular among 'white employers in the South' after the Civil War. So, according to these geniuses, enjoying a meal and tipping your server is basically perpetuating Jim Crow. This is the level of historical understanding we're dealing with here.
The Left wants to act like servers making over 50 dollars an hour in total compensation (wages plus tips) are being taken advantage of. And don’t get me started on the 'living wage'. A living wage is earned through skills that are built. Not every job is meant to provide a living wage, sometimes it's just meant to be a starting point.
Meanwhile, back in reality, restaurant owners are staring down the barrel of inflation, supply chain issues, and now, this wage hike. Good luck finding a decent meal in Chicago in a few years. It'll either cost you a fortune or be served by robots.
But hey, at least Brandon Johnson can pat himself on the back for being so woke. The city's economy might be in the toilet, but he'll be tweeting about social justice from his ivory tower. Classic.
This whole thing is a perfect example of how woke ideology destroys everything it touches. Sensible economic policy? Out the window. Common sense? Gone. Just virtue signaling and pandering to the perpetually offended. Buckle up, Chicago. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.
