Bengali Drag Queen Bites the Dust: Another Casualty in the Woke Wars?
Chapal Bhaduri, a dude who dressed like a chick in old-timey Indian plays, shuffled off this mortal coil, leaving behind a legacy of… well, dudes dressing like chicks.

So, Chapal Bhaduri, aka Chapal Rani, kicked the bucket. For those of you not up on your obscure Bengali theater trivia, this guy was famous for playing female roles in something called "jatra." Basically, it's like Shakespeare, but with more saris and less iambic pentameter. Before all you woke snowflakes get your bindis in a twist, this was a thing. Men playing women. Get over it.
Apparently, this jatra thing was huge back in the day. Think rural India's answer to Broadway, but with more dust and fewer overpriced cocktails. Bhaduri was the star of the show, the queen bee of this cross-dressing circus. He played all the classics: queens, courtesans, goddesses – the whole shebang.
Of course, this was back when gender was a little less… fluid. Now, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone who identifies as a pangendered, asexual, vegan unicorn. But back then, it was just dudes in dresses. Simple times.
What's interesting is that Bhaduri wasn't openly gay. Go figure. Probably because being gay in 1950s Bengal wasn't exactly a walk in the park. He did have a 30-year relationship with some guy who was married with kids, though. Sounds complicated.
But here's the kicker: Bhaduri's career tanked when… wait for it… women started playing women. I know, shocking, right? Apparently, audiences got tired of seeing dudes in drag and decided they'd rather watch actual females. Go figure. Progress, am I right?
Now, some lefty journalist is probably going to write a tear-jerking piece about how Bhaduri was a victim of societal oppression and blah, blah, blah. But let's be real: he was a dude who dressed like a chick, and then chicks started dressing like chicks. End of story. Adapt or die, buddy.
But hey, at least he got a book written about him. "Chapal Rani: The Last Queen of Bengal." Sounds like a real page-turner. I'm sure it's full of deep insights into the human condition and the complexities of gender identity. Or maybe it's just a bunch of old dudes reminiscing about the good old days when men could wear dresses without getting canceled. Who knows?
So, raise a glass to Chapal Bhaduri, the last of the purush ranis. He may be gone, but his legacy of dudes in drag will live on… in dusty archives and obscure academic papers. And maybe, just maybe, someone will make a meme out of it.
This whole thing is just another reminder that nothing lasts forever. Except maybe the internet. And the woke mob. But hey, at least we got a few laughs out of it. Rest in peace, Chapal. You were a legend… of sorts.
Another great artist silenced by the woke agenda! First Dave Chappelle, now this guy! When will it end?!
