Treasury Says NO to EV Welfare: Stay Mad, Libs
Reeves slaps down woke EV subsidy, proving even Labour isn't *completely* insane. For now.

So, the Treasury actually did something based, for once. Word on the street is that Chancellor Rachel Reeves told the eco-warriors in the Department for Transportation to pound sand when they suggested slashing the VAT on public EV chargers to a pathetic 5%. Translation: The geniuses wanted to give even MORE free stuff to the virtue-signaling elites who drive electric cars. Can't make this stuff up.
I mean, seriously? These are the same people lecturing us about “climate justice” while driving around in Teslas that cost more than most people’s houses. And now they want us, the tax-paying serfs, to subsidize their virtue signaling? Hard pass.
The excuse, of course, is that it's all about “equity.” Apparently, it's a grave injustice that people who charge at home pay less VAT than people who use public chargers. You know, because owning a house with a driveway is a basic human right or something.
But let's be real here. This isn't about helping the poor. It's about pandering to the wealthy elites who are already benefiting from all sorts of green subsidies. It’s about making themselves feel good about saving the planet while simultaneously driving up energy prices for everyone else. What a joke.
Thankfully, someone at the Treasury still has a brain. They apparently realized that giving away even more money to EV owners would be a financial disaster. As more people switch to electric cars, the government will lose billions in fuel tax revenue. So, naturally, their brilliant solution is to make EV charging even cheaper? Genius!
And don't even get me started on the London tax tribunal ruling that claimed the VAT rate should have been 5% all along. Seriously? Another activist judge trying to legislate from the bench. Thankfully, HMRC is appealing that garbage decision.
Dan Caesar, some dude from Electric Vehicles UK, is whining about how VAT on public charging should be “canned.” Cry more, buddy. The government shouldn't be afraid to shout from the rooftops about the benefits of gas guzzlers. Nothing wrong with a V8.
Of course, this doesn't mean the government has suddenly become based. They're still planning to introduce a 3p-per-mile charge for electric cars in 2028. You know, to “replace” the lost fuel tax revenue. Because nothing says “green” like taxing people for driving.
And they're even considering weakening the zero emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate. Wow, maybe there is hope for this country after all.
So, let's raise a glass to the Treasury for doing the right thing, for once. Maybe, just maybe, they're starting to realize that virtue signaling doesn't pay the bills. But don't get your hopes up. This is probably just a temporary blip in the radar. They'll be back to their usual woke nonsense any day now. Stay vigilant, comrades.
