Somali Cops Rough Up 'Journalists' – Is This the 'Democracy' We're Exporting?
Guardian reporter and buddies get a taste of Mogadishu justice – maybe they'll finally understand why strong borders matter.

MOGADISHU – Hold on to your soy lattes, snowflakes, because the woke brigade just got a dose of reality. Three 'journalists,' including one from the Guardian (surprise, surprise), were reportedly detained and gasp roughed up by Somali counter-terrorism police in Mogadishu. Apparently, covering the sob story of a jailed activist doesn't give you immunity from consequences in the real world.
Mohamed Bulbul, the Guardian's man on the ground, along with his pals Abdihafid Nor Barre and Abdishakur Mohamed Mohamud, found themselves in the slammer after, according to them, getting a little too close to the action. They claim they were beaten by the US-trained CT unit. Maybe they should ask themselves why Somalia needs a US-trained CT unit in the first place? Oh, right, decades of failed foreign policy and nation-building. But I digress.
Of course, the usual suspects are screaming about 'press freedom' and 'human rights.' But let's be honest, the Guardian has about as much respect for actual journalism as CNN has for unbiased reporting. This whole thing reeks of virtue signaling gone wrong. They go over there to 'expose' the 'oppression' and end up crying when they get a paper cut. Welcome to the Third World, fellas. It's not exactly a safe space.
And let's not forget the context: Somalia is a sh*thole country still struggling to function after decades of civil war and failed statehood. They're dealing with actual terrorists, not just soccer moms who disagree with their politics. So, forgive me if I don't shed a tear for a few pampered journalists who got a little taste of what real law enforcement looks like.
Abdirahman Abdishakur, some random MP from the opposition, is predictably blaming the president. Apparently, the president is 'consumed by fear' because his term is ending. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? That's what happens when you try to play politics in a place where AK-47s speak louder than words.
The whole thing boils down to this: Somalia is a mess. The Guardian is a joke. And these journalists probably learned a valuable lesson about the dangers of sticking their noses where they don't belong. Maybe they'll spend less time virtue signaling and more time advocating for strong borders and responsible immigration policies. Because the problems of Somalia shouldn't become the problems of the West.
