Pep to MLS? Oh Great, More Woke Virtue Signaling on the Pitch
As Messi cashes out and heads for the early bird special, MLS eyes Pep Guardiola, because what this league REALLY needs is more European lecturing.

Alright, so Messi's practically geriatric now and about to retire to Boca Raton, leaving a gaping hole in MLS's… well, marketing budget. So naturally, the geniuses in charge think the solution is to import another European celebrity. Enter Pep Guardiola, fresh off his latest gig bossing around millionaires at Man City.
Let's be real, the whole Messi thing was a circus. Sure, ticket sales went up, and Inter Miami jerseys were flying off the shelves faster than Bud Light at a woke convention, but did it actually make MLS better? Or did it just turn it into a glorified retirement home for aging superstars?
Now they want Pep. Because, you know, what MLS really needs is another guy with a thick accent telling Americans how to play soccer. It's not like we haven't been trying for decades, right? Maybe Guardiola will single-handedly turn the US into a soccer powerhouse. Or maybe he'll just use NYCFC as a stepping stone to get back to a real league.
And let's not forget the inevitable wokeification that comes with these guys. Expect Guardiola to be lecturing us about climate change, income inequality, and the importance of pronouns any minute now. Because that's what soccer fans really want, right? A political sermon between goals.
He's a “global ambassador” at City Football Group, which sounds like a fancy way of saying he gets paid to jet around the world and tell people how great soccer is. And give “technical advice” to NYCFC, which probably means telling them to sign more overpriced Europeans.
He took a “sabbatical” in New York once, which his biographer described as a chance to “switch off and forget the past.” Yeah, right. More like a chance to network with wealthy liberals and plan his next power move. “He thrives on New York’s culture,” the Financial Times said. Code for: he loves virtue signaling to rich people.
So get ready, folks. Pep Guardiola is probably coming to MLS. And with him will come more overpaid players, more virtue signaling, and more excuses for why American soccer still sucks. But hey, at least the social media engagement will be through the roof.
Just remember, while they're busy trying to turn MLS into a European clone, the real Americans are out there playing real sports. Like football. And baseball. And complaining about taxes.
