Pentagon Throwing $54 Billion at Skynet: Based or Cringe?
They're building robot armies, folks, and the only question is: will they finally get rid of Kamala?

So, the Pentagon, bless their hearts, wants FIFTY-FOUR BILLION DOLLARS for the “Defense Autonomous Warfare Group.” That’s DAWG, for short. And I ain't talking about the homies. Sounds more like a pack of killer robots straight outta Terminator. Apparently, this is the “largest single commitment to autonomous warfare in history,” according to career war criminal and all-around swamp creature David Petraeus. Great. Just great.
They're calling it the “Drone Dominance” program. Drone Dominance! Sounds like something Elon Musk would tweet after a particularly potent edible. Are we talking drone delivery of tendies and cope? Or drone strikes on… well, let’s just say “undesirables”?
Now, the usual suspects are wringing their hands about the “ethics” and “risks” of AI warfare. Jeffrey Ladish, some dude from Palisade Research, is worried about AI-powered coups. Peter Wallich, a Brit who probably sips tea and cries about Brexit, claims these systems have “exploitable safeguard failures.” No duh. Everything the government touches turns to crap. Expect the drones to start mowing down soccer moms and mistaking school buses for enemy tanks.
And let's not forget the Pentagon's beef with Anthropic. They wanted to stop the military from using their AI for “mass surveillance or fully autonomous lethal weapons.” Translation: Anthropic wants to virtue signal to the woke crowd while still cashing government checks. Classic.
But let’s be real. This whole thing smells like a giant slush fund for defense contractors and Silicon Valley grifters. They'll be raking in the dough while building buggy, overpriced robots that will probably end up getting hacked by some kid in his mom’s basement. Remember when they tried to make robo-dogs? And they ended up looking like something from a bad sci-fi horror movie? Yeah, expect more of that.
Olaf Hichwa, a drone manufacturer, is all giddy about this, saying the Pentagon is “taking battlefield feedback seriously.” Of course he is. He's about to get paid. I bet he voted for Biden. Maybe the robots will come after the ones lining their pockets first… nah, probably not.
Honestly, I'm just waiting for the first drone to malfunction and start attacking Congress. That would be peak irony. Maybe then they’ll finally realize that throwing money at the military-industrial complex isn’t the answer. Or maybe they’ll just build more drones. Because that’s what they do. Remember the Patriot Act? Anyone? Anyone?
