NASCAR Gets a New Boss: Can This Guy Un-Woke the Woke-Mobile?
Steve O'Donnell takes the reins at NASCAR, promising to bring back the 'badass' and ditch the virtue signaling – but can he drain the swamp?

TALLADEGA, Ala. — So, NASCAR's got a new CEO, Steve O'Donnell. Apparently, Jim France is stepping back – but not really, he's still Chairman. It's like when your boss 'retires' but still shows up to micromanage every Tuesday. Anyway, O'Donnell's the guy now, and he's promising to make NASCAR great again. Or, as he put it, a "badass American sport."
Let's be real, NASCAR's been kinda… soft lately. Trying to appeal to everyone, which means appealing to no one. Remember when they bent the knee to the woke mob a few years back? That didn't exactly boost ratings, did it?
O'Donnell's got a tough road ahead. He's gotta deal with the fallout from that antitrust lawsuit filed by Michael Jordan – yeah, that Michael Jordan. Seems like even His Airness wasn't happy with how NASCAR was divvying up the cash. The lawsuit got settled, but the bad blood's probably still there.
And then there's the Steve Phelps debacle. Remember him? The NASCAR Commissioner who got canned after some spicy texts came out during the trial? Talk about a dumpster fire. O'Donnell's gotta clean up that mess, too.
He's promising to "unite" the industry. Good luck with that. NASCAR's full of egos and backstabbing. It's basically Game of Thrones with cars. But hey, at least he's saying the right things. "Listen to every stakeholder," he says. That includes the fans, who are probably sick of the constant rule changes and the watered-down racing.
O'Donnell's the first non-France family member to hold the CEO title. That's a big deal. The Frances have been running the show since Bill France Sr. founded NASCAR back in the day. Now, some outsider's coming in to shake things up. Will he succeed? Who knows? But at least it's something different.
He's also got Ben Kennedy – France's great-nephew – getting bumped up to COO. So, the France family's still got their fingers in the pie. Don't expect a complete revolution here.
Look, NASCAR needs a kick in the pants. It needs to stop pandering to the woke crowd and start focusing on what made it great in the first place: fast cars, loud engines, and good ol' American competition. Can O'Donnell deliver? We'll see. But if he doesn't, NASCAR might just end up in the junkyard of forgotten sports. It’s time to stop sucking and start winning. Get woke, go broke. Or, in this case, stay woke, stay broke.
The promotion of Ben Kennedy to COO suggests a continued commitment to the France family's involvement in NASCAR's leadership. Kennedy's youth and experience within the organization are seen as assets as NASCAR looks to attract a younger audience.
This move is either genius or a complete clusterfuck. Buckle up, buttercups.
