Labor's Housing 'Reforms': Just Another Way to Fleece Landlords and Screw the Economy?
Get ready for rent hikes, folks! Labor's 'plan' to fix housing is just a thinly veiled attack on property owners, fueled by woke virtue signaling and economic illiteracy.

So, Labor's at it again, folks. This time, they're coming for your investment properties with their so-called 'reforms' to negative gearing and capital gains tax. You know, the things that actually incentivize people to provide housing for everyone else? But hey, who needs logic when you can score woke points by demonizing landlords?
Their big idea? Limit negative gearing to new builds. Because, obviously, the way to solve a housing shortage is to make it less appealing to build new houses. Makes perfect sense, right? And of course, they're tweaking capital gains tax because rewarding success is, like, totally unfair or something.
We're told this is all about helping first-time homebuyers. Sure, Jan. What it really is is a handout to the perpetually entitled, paid for by the people who actually take risks and contribute to the economy. Prepare for even smaller apartments, built even more shoddily, costing even MORE because the incentives are all jacked up.
Maiy Azize from Everybody's Home is out there claiming landlords won't hike rents. Right, and I'm the King of England. Landlords are gonna eat the increased costs? Please. Expect rents to go up faster than the national debt under this clown show.
And let's not forget the Treasury modelling that conveniently glosses over the downsides. Sure, they admit 35,000 fewer homes will be built. But hey, at least some bureaucrats will get a pat on the back for 'doing something.'
Acoss policy director Jacqueline Phillips bleats about 'inequality.' Newsflash: life isn't fair. And penalizing success doesn't make things more equal, it just makes everyone poorer. Except, of course, the politicians and bureaucrats who get to micromanage our lives.
The Shadow Treasurer is sounding the alarm about rent increases, but the media, predictably, is painting him as a fearmonger. Because questioning the glorious leader is, like, totally problematic.
So buckle up, folks. This is gonna be a bumpy ride. Renters, get ready to pay more. Landlords, get ready to be demonized. And everyone else, get ready for another dose of Labor's economic genius. Spoiler: it's gonna suck.
