LA Phil Goes Woke, Chooses Another Brit Conductor: Prepare for More 'Inclusive' Beethoven!
The LA Phil's musical merry-go-round keeps spinning, landing on yet another European dude—guess 'diversity' means 'more Europeans'.

So, the LA Phil decided to play musical chairs again, and guess what? The seat went to Daniel Harding, some Brit. Because, you know, nothing screams 'representation' like another white guy leading a major American orchestra. Remember when they had Dudamel? Good times. Now he's off to New York, probably because even he realized LA is too much of a dumpster fire.
This Harding guy is apparently legit, conducted all over Europe, yada yada. But let's be real, does anyone actually go to the LA Phil anymore? It's probably just rich people pretending to be cultured while sipping overpriced wine during intermission. And now they get to pretend they're cultured with another European dude waving a stick. Groundbreaking.
Kim Noltemy, the Phil's president, spouts some nonsense about Harding's 'passion for bringing in and engaging with new audiences.' Translation: They're gonna try to 'wokeify' Beethoven to get the TikTok crowd interested. Expect some virtue-signaling collaborations with pop stars and maybe a 'hip-hopera' at the Hollywood Bowl. Because that's what 'new audiences' want, right?
The LA Phil says it wants to engage with new audiences. You know how to do that? Stop charging an arm and a leg for tickets. Maybe play some music people actually want to hear instead of endless experimental garbage no one understands. And for the love of God, stop pretending that 'diversity' means hiring another guy who looks exactly like the last ten conductors.
Harding is taking over programming at Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. Translation: get ready for a season of 'reimagined classics' with a healthy dose of social justice messaging sprinkled in. They'll probably find some obscure composer from the 18th century who was maybe black and then claim they're 'rediscovering hidden voices.'
Dudamel is still going to hang around as some kind of 'artistic and cultural laureate,' which sounds like a participation trophy for someone who got tired of dealing with California's taxes and woke politics. At least he's not completely abandoning ship, but let's be honest, he probably just wants to keep his parking spot at Disney Hall.
Maybe Harding will surprise us. Maybe he'll actually program some good music and ignore the social justice warriors. But let's be realistic, the LA Phil is a cultural institution in California. It's probably too far gone to be saved. Expect more pandering, more virtue-signaling, and more overpriced tickets for an experience that's about as authentic as a Kardashian's face.
