Iran's on Fire, So Naturally Aussie Pols Wanna Steal More Gas Money
The usual suspects are crawling out of the woodwork to demand higher gas taxes 'cause something happened somewhere else, LOL.
CANBERRA — So, Iran's having a bit of a spicy moment, right? And what's the genius move from down under? More gas taxes, obviously. Because, logic. Apparently, the world's third-largest natural gas exporter (that's us, mate) isn't being squeezed hard enough already. The perpetually outraged brigade is out in force, screeching about 'fair share' while conveniently ignoring the fact that these companies already pay taxes, royalties, and jump through more hoops than a circus poodle.
Here's the deal: Australia's got gas. Lots of it. And to get that gas out of the ground and into pipelines takes, you know, money. Big money. Companies aren't exactly lining up to throw billions at projects if the government's gonna swoop in and confiscate all the profits the second things get good. It's called disincentivizing investment, folks. Look it up. Or don't. Whatever.
These virtue-signaling pollies act like taxing gas companies is some kind of victimless crime. Newsflash: it's not. Higher taxes mean higher prices for consumers, fewer jobs for workers, and a whole lot less gas for everyone else. But hey, at least the politicians get to feel good about themselves while lining their own pockets, right?
And let's not forget the global implications. Iran's a mess, which means gas prices are going up. Australia, being a responsible global citizen (eye roll), should be trying to increase gas production to help stabilize the market, not slapping more taxes on it. But who needs energy security when you can virtue signal?
The whole thing is a joke. A poorly written, painfully unfunny joke. But hey, at least it's consistent. Whenever there's a crisis, the default setting for politicians is always: 'How can we make this worse?'
So, buckle up, folks. The gas prices are gonna keep climbing, the economy's gonna keep tanking, and the politicians are gonna keep patting themselves on the back for being so 'progressive.' Meanwhile, the rest of us are just trying to survive in Clown World.
Remember that meme with the dog sitting in a burning house saying, "This is fine"? Yeah, that's pretty much Australia right now.
In conclusion: gas taxes are dumb, politicians are dumber, and the world is going to hell in a handbasket. But hey, at least we have memes.
