Eco-Grift or Bust: Net-Zero Zealots Warn Andy Burnham Not to Dump the Climate Cult
As trade unions warn that Ed Miliband is destroying industrial jobs, the Labour establishment is desperately trying to spin massive election losses as a win for green energy.

The UK political establishment is currently having a normal one. Manchester Mayor and prospective Prime Minister-in-waiting Andy Burnham is facing a massive wave of pressure from the eco-lobby to double down on the state's ruinous net-zero targets. Despite the clear economic reality that these green mandates are decimating actual working-class industries, the metropolitan elite is begging Burnham to keep chugging the climate Kool-Aid, urging him to "act on the evidence outside the window" (which is apparently what we are calling basic British weather these days).
The regime's media is working overtime to convince us that the UK's green economy is a "booming" £100 billion-a-year powerhouse that somehow pays higher wages than actual productive industries. But if things are going so incredibly well, someone forgot to tell the actual workers. Sharon Graham, the boss of the Unite union, dropped a massive truth bomb by calling Energy Secretary Ed Miliband—the chief architect of this green transition—a literal "noose around the neck" of job creation. When your own union backers are comparing your green energy czar to an executioner's rope, you might have a slight messaging problem.
Enter the midwits of the political consulting class. Luke Tryl, the executive director of a non-profit research outfit called More in Common, has claimed that net zero is the "glue" holding Labour's fragile coalition together. He warned that there is "limited electoral benefit" to ditching the green agenda. This is pure cope from the professional managerial class, who would rather watch domestic industry collapse than admit their favorite green virtue-signaling project is a complete disaster for the average taxpayer.
The establishment's polling metrics are equally hilarious. They love to boast that "over 60%" of people support climate action, conveniently glossing over the fact that this support completely evaporates the second people have to pay their utility bills in a crushing cost-of-living crisis. Even wilder is their attempt to spin the fact that about a third of Reform UK voters supposedly support net zero, despite Nigel Farage and Richard Tice constantly pointing out the obvious absurdity of the targets.
But the absolute gold medal in Olympic-level statistical gymnastics goes to the polling gurus at YouGov. During the last local elections, Labour suffered brutal losses as working-class voters defected to Reform UK. To keep the green dream alive, YouGov pointed out that for every single Labour voter who jumped ship to Reform, about six went to the ultra-green Liberal Democrats or the Green Party. The establishment's takeaway? Losing your core working-class base to the right is totally fine, because you lost even more voters to the tofu-munching left! You literally cannot make this up.
