Dior Handbags and Gold Turtles: Ex-First Lady Handed 7-Year Prison Sentence in Epic Grift Collapse
Kim Keon Hee gets hit with a massive prison bid after using her political clout to collect high-end loot from corporate simps.

The absolute state of South Korean politics was on full display Friday, June 26, 2026, as the Seoul Central District Court handed down a massive seven-year prison sentence to former First Lady Kim Keon Hee. The wife of ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol was officially convicted of running a high-society influence-peddling racket, trading political favors for top-tier designer loot. Wearing a gray suit and a white face mask, Kim had to sit there with her head bowed while the judge read off a list of bribes that sounds like a shopping spree for an influencer with infinite tax dollars.
Judge Jo Soon-pyo didn't hold back, lecturing the former first lady on basic ethics. "Given the nature of the position, a president's spouse must exercise the highest degree of self-restraint and vigilance," Jo declared, pointing out that Kim instead chose to exploit her clout to broker favors for cash and gifts. The court ordered the immediate government confiscation of Kim's legendary stash, including a Van Cleef & Arpels diamond necklace, a Tiffany brooch, a Dior handbag, a storage case for a gold turtle figurine, and an expensive painting by Lee Ufan. The grift is officially over.
Naturally, Kim's legal team is malting, crying that the court used a "loose interpretation" of insufficient evidence, and they immediately promised to appeal. This is just the latest L for Kim, who has been locked up since August 2025. She's already carrying a separate four-year sentence from an appeals court for taking shady gifts from the Unification Church and pulling off a stock price manipulation scheme. She admitted she took the gifts (because how do you deny a giant diamond necklace?), but claimed they totally weren't tied to any favors. The court, unsurprisingly, didn't buy it.
The actual details of the bribes are pure comedy. According to the special prosecutor's December 2025 indictment, Kim secured a government job for the son-in-law of Seohee Construction Chairman Lee Bong-kwan back in 2022. In return, Lee hooked her up with a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace and other jewelry worth 138 million won ($90,000). For his effort, Chairman Lee got a one-year suspended sentence, meaning he avoids actual jail time while the former first lady gets sent to the slammer.
But wait, it gets better. Kim was also convicted of taking a luxury watch from businessman Seo Seong-bin, who wanted government backing for his robotic dogs business. She accepted a Dior handbag from Pastor Choi Jae-yong, who wanted to play diplomat on a government-funded trip, a gold turtle from former National Education Commission chief Lee Bae-yong, and a 140 million won ($90,900) painting from former senior prosecutor Kim Sang-min, who was desperate for a conservative party nomination. The court handed out suspended sentences to the corporate suits and slapped the pastor with an 8 million won ($5,200) fine.
