Cope and Seethe: DC Swamp Passes Meaningless 'War Powers' Resolution While Trump Has Iran on the Ropes
A few RINO Senators teamed up with Democrats to pass a symbolic 'slap on the wrist' that changes absolutely nothing on the ground.

The swamp is back at it again, folks. In a desperate bid for relevance, the Republican-controlled Senate decided to hold a 50-48 vote on Tuesday to pass a completely toothless, non-binding concurrent resolution demanding President Trump halt military operations in Iran. A tiny handful of country-club Republicans crossed the aisle to join the Democrats in this supreme act of virtue signaling, which follows a similar useless vote in the House of Representatives earlier this month.
Let’s be real about what a "concurrent resolution" actually is: it’s the legislative equivalent of an angry tweet. It doesn't go to the president's desk, it doesn't carry the force of law, and it has zero legal power to stop anything. Middle East analyst Laura Blumenfeld kept it 100, calling the vote "more of a slap on a wrist than a handcuff" because it literally has no legal binding power. It’s pure political theater designed to give the establishment media something to write about while doing absolutely nothing of substance.
Trump, of course, was not about to let this slide without a classic response. Writing on his Truth Social platform, the president blasted the vote as an annoying distraction just as the U.S. is winning. "So, I have Iran on the 'ropes,' ready to go down for the fall... and the U.S. Senate decides to have a poorly timed and meaningless War Powers Act Vote," Trump posted. He added, "These Senators have just made my job more difficult, but I will get it done, one way or the other, because I always get it done!"
The corporate media is trying to spin this as some massive "watershed event" because both chambers of Congress haven't used this specific War Powers mechanism since 1973. They even trotted out Tufts University law professor Michael Glennon to hype up how "unprecedented" it is for a Republican Congress to stand up to a Republican president. But even Glennon had to admit the truth: "As a practical matter, it probably doesn't make much difference." Exactly. It’s a total nothingburger on the ground where the conflict has been frozen for five months.
Meanwhile, the actual situation in the region is getting wild. The UN is talking about evacuating merchant sailors who got themselves stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, and Senator Marco Rubio is out here warning people against paying illegal tolls to regional actors. But instead of focusing on actual solutions, the DC elite are busy trying to score cheap political points and distance themselves from a tough, necessary foreign policy fight ahead of the November midterms.
Constitutional law professor Jonathan Entin from Case Western Reserve University pointed out the real game being played here. He warned people not to overreact to this vote, noting that it’s mostly just a few nervous Republicans trying to look "independent" to appeal to moderate voters before the election. But as Entin rightly noted, these politicians are playing with fire. Trump has overwhelming support among the Republican base, and any candidate who tries to cuck to the establishment risks getting absolutely wrecked by angry voters who hate disloyalty.
Historically, every single U.S. president has ignored the War Powers Resolution because executive authority in wartime is protected by the Constitution. Back in 2019, Trump easily vetoed a joint resolution on Yemen, proving he isn’t afraid to flex his executive muscles when Congress tries to micromanage national security. This latest stunt is just another chapter in the endless drama of DC insiders trying to tie the hands of a president who actually gets things done.
At the end of the day, the Senate’s little symbolic tantrum isn't going to stop the administration from finishing the job. Iran is on the ropes, the base is fully behind the president, and the establishment's attempt to play commander-in-chief is going to go down as just another forgotten congressional press release. Trump is going to get it done, one way or the other, because that's what he does.
