To back up the panic, they’re throwing around scary numbers about how 10,000 people died in summer heatwaves between 2020 and 2024, and citing reports claiming global heat kills one person every minute. Right on cue, UN climate chief Simon Stiell emerged from his air-conditioned office to lecture the masses. He declared this ordinary summer weather to be the "latest price to pay for fossil fuel pollution." Stiell lamented about "schools closing, the vulnerable dying, economies sweating," and warned that this is just the beginning of the climate crisis. He insisted that the only solution is a fast shift to renewables and protecting trees, completely ignoring the fact that global carbon emissions actually rose in 2025 despite all the international treaties.

Not to be outdone in the virtue-signaling department, the UK Parliament voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to legally bind the country to a massive 87% emissions cut by 2040. They’re taking orders from their official advisor, the Climate Change Committee (CCC), which claimed in May that the UK’s infrastructure was "built for a climate that no longer exists." It’s the perfect political play: pass symbolic laws targeting 2040 while the country’s actual, current infrastructure melts because of a little high humidity.
