Clown World California Approves Insane Retroactive Billionaire Tax for November Ballot
Leftist unions push a retroactive 5% asset grab on tech founders, setting up an absolute battle royale in the Golden State.

Just when you thought California couldn’t get any more economically illiterate, the Secretary of State officially certified the 'California Billionaire Tax Act' for the November ballot. Activists secured double the signatures needed to get this on the ticket, meaning voters get to decide on a literal 5% retroactive asset grab. The certification went through late Thursday after Governor Gavin Newsom’s frantic backroom attempts to negotiate a cope-deal with the labor unions fell apart completely.
The proposed law would impose a one-time 5% tax on any resident worth over $1 billion. And here is the kicker: it’s retroactive to January 1, 2026. So if you made your money during the recent AI boom and live in California, the state wants to reach back in time and take a massive bite out of your net worth. There are about 200 billionaires in the state who are about to get a very loud wake-up call, and many of them are already packing their bags for Texas and Florida.
The main boss behind this campaign is the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW). They want to use this one-time pile of cash to prop up the state's failing social programs, education, and healthcare systems. Chief of Staff Suzanne Jimenez tried to justify the move by complaining that working stiffs pay higher effective tax rates than the ultra-rich, and explicitly blamed Donald Trump’s 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act' for federal healthcare cuts.
Naturally, the progressive circus has arrived in town to cheer this on. Socialist icon Senator Bernie Sanders rolled into Los Angeles back in February to yell at clouds, telling a crowd that billionaires are going to learn 'we are still living in a democratic society.' Local progressive Congressman Ro Khanna has also jumped on the bandwagon, hoping this state-level experiment will pave the way for a federal wealth tax.
But the tech and crypto elites aren't about to let their bags get seized without a fight. Silicon Valley is preparing to drop tens of millions of dollars into an unprecedented counter-campaign. It’s shaping up to be a total war between union organizers and tech venture capitalists, and the campaign spending is expected to break every record on the books.
In a hilarious twist, the left-wing coalition is completely eating itself over this measure. Major liberal organizations have joined the tech bros to oppose the tax. The California Teachers Association, the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, the California Medical Association, and even Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California have all come out against the bill.
