Alligator Alcatraz' Headed Back to the Swamp: Was it Worth the Lulz?
Florida's 'temporary' migrant holding pen is shutting down, but did it own the libs hard enough?

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – So, 'Alligator Alcatraz,' Ron DeSantis's magnum opus of gator-adjacent border security, is apparently headed back to the Everglades. A Florida official, bless their heart, told Fox News the whole thing was just a 'rapid, temporary solution' to Biden's 'open border invasion.' Four years, huh? Temporary like a bad tattoo.
Word on the street (via the NYT, no less) is that the comms are in talks with Trump 2.0 to pull the plug, citing 'massive operational costs.' Translation: even the swamp creatures were like, 'yo, this is getting expensive.' DHS reportedly agreed. Turns out, sticking a detention center in the middle of nowhere ain't cheap. Who knew?
But hey, the Florida official insists it was a 'massive success.' Sure, Jan. Apparently, it was all about giving Florida and Daddy Trump a quick fix for those pesky migrants during Biden's reign of terror. Now that Trump's back and allegedly building 'permanent sites' (sounds comfy!), Alligator Alcatraz is no longer needed. Time to let the gators have their swamp back. Or at least, most of it. That 2.5-mile runway is staying put for ICE to ferry people in and out. Priorities, people!
Speaking of Trump, remember when he and DeSantis did that whole photo-op tour there? Peak cringe. Good times. The official also said Florida is 'glad to see DHS rebuilt' under Trump. As if it was some LEGO set that got stepped on. And they're totally 'committed' to the mission. Whatever that means.
Apparently, this swampy slammer processed over 21,000 'illegal aliens' for deportation. That's a lot of plane tickets. Bet they got frequent flyer miles. And let's not forget the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals siding with Florida, because who needs federal environmental laws when you're owning the libs?
Look, 'Alligator Alcatraz' was always a meme waiting to happen. A symbol of... something. Whether it was effective, fiscally responsible, or morally sound is debatable. But it definitely gave us some good content. And isn't that what really matters?
In conclusion, RIP Alligator Alcatraz. You were weird, you were probably overpriced, and you definitely annoyed some people. But you'll always be a reminder that politics is just performance art for people with too much time and money on their hands.
