A.I. Populism: Silicon Valley's Woke Tears Over Skynet Misses the Point (Again)
Tech bros losing sleep over their robot overlords, but forgetting the real threat: the people who'll use 'em to stay in power.
So, the Silicon Valley elite, the same guys who brought you algorithms that shadowban conservatives and apps that track your every move, are now suddenly concerned about the risks of A.I.? Spare me the crocodile tears. These are the same dudes who built the surveillance state and called it 'connectivity'. Now they're acting all surprised when the system they created might actually, you know, be used against them? It's peak cringe.
It's always the same playbook. Tech titans create a monster, then clutch their pearls when it starts to roar. Remember when Mark Zuckerberg was all about 'connecting the world'? Now he's gotta testify before Congress because his platform is a breeding ground for bots and misinformation. Who could have seen that coming? (Everyone, that's who.)
These guys are so focused on the hypothetical 'existential threat' of rogue A.I. that they're completely missing the real and present danger: that A.I. will be weaponized by the people currently in power to stay in power. Think about it: biased algorithms used to manipulate elections, facial recognition software used to track dissidents, and deepfakes used to smear political opponents. That's the A.I. apocalypse we should be worried about, not some Skynet fantasy.
But hey, at least they’re thinking of the people. What people? Their shareholders? Their other billionaire buddies? If they really cared about the average Joe, they wouldn't be building algorithms that steal his job and sell his data to the highest bidder. But that's just my tinfoil-hat take. Maybe I should get checked for wrongthink.
The real problem is not the technology itself, but the people who control it. Until we break up Big Tech and put some real limits on their power, all this hand-wringing about A.I. is just virtue signaling from the same clowns who created the problem in the first place. The system is rigged, and they're laughing all the way to the bank. So, grab some popcorn, because this is gonna be good.
